What size TV works best for a media wall?

Most media walls are designed around TVs between 55 and 75 inches, although any size can work as long as the frame is built to the correct VESA mount pattern and weight rating. We design the recess around your specific TV, not the other way round.

What height should my TV be mounted at?

The centre of your TV should sit at your seated eye level, not standing eye level — typically 95–110cm from the floor, depending on your sofa height. Mounting the TV too high is the most common mistake in DIY media wall builds, and one we design around from the start.

What's the difference between an alcove media wall and a full-wall build?

Accepted Answer

An alcove media wall fits into the existing recesses either side of a chimney breast, while a full-wall build extends floor-to-ceiling across the entire wall, with or without a chimney breast present. Alcove builds are typically cheaper, since less surface area needs cladding, and suit period properties where the existing architecture is worth keeping visible. Full-wall builds cost more but create a bigger visual impact, work well in modern or open-plan rooms without a chimney breast, and give more space for wider TVs, extra storage, or a larger fireplace. As a general rule: choose an alcove build to work with your room's existing features on a tighter budget, and a full-wall build if you want the media wall itself to be the room's main focal point.

How do you keep cables hidden safely?

Cables should be routed through a dedicated electrical containment inside the stud wall, rather than simply hiding standard extension leads behind panelling. This matters because ordinary plug leads aren't designed to be sealed inside a wall as fixed wiring — done incorrectly, it's a genuine fire risk.

What measurements do you need before quoting for a media wall?

Accepted Answer

To give you an accurate quote, we need three measurements: the total width of the wall, the height from floor to ceiling, and how far the media wall can project into the room without blocking a doorway or walkway. If you have an existing chimney breast, we also need the width and depth of the alcoves either side of it. For the most accurate initial estimate, send us your TV size, whether you want an electric fire included, and a few photos or a short video of the wall alongside these measurements — this lets us confirm feasibility. A site visit is still recommended before final sign-off, since wall depth and any hidden pipework or wiring can affect what's possible
